Will Adams Festival

September 2008

The festival takes place each September to celebrate the links between Japan and the Medway region, embodied in the form of Will Adams, a native of Gillingham, whose exploits in the 17th century formed the bases for James Clavell’s famous novel Shogun and the TV series of the same name.

We have offered the local community performances of Japanese music and dance, as well as an opportunity to experience traditional skills such as calligraphy (write your name in Japanese) and origami.
