Chaucer College Open Evening

November 2010

In November 2010, the College put on an Open Evening of Japanese food and culture to raise money for Health For All, a locally-based charity initially developed by the doctors, staff and patients at the Bridge and Littlebourne Health Centres, Canterbury. Aiming to "preserve health and relieve sickness and suffering in the less developed countries of the world", it supports partnership projects in India and Africa.

Musical performances on the koto and the piano were complemented by displays of Japanese arts and crafts (origami, calligraphy, the tea ceremony), kendo, karate and dance (the traditional Fisherman’s Dance). The evening also included a delicious Japanese buffet, prepared by staff and students, and concluded with a rousing performance on the Taiko drums by the College’s drumming troupe.
